Why study in La Coruña?
A gateway to Galician culture
La Coruña, a city that stretches across the Rías Altas Gallegas and is home to nearly 250,000 people, is one of the most enviable natural landscapes in Spain. It is also the location of the headquarters of the multinational clothing and accessories company ZARA, whose garments are found in wardrobes around the world.
Galicia, the national source of seafood
Galician cuisine is one of the most famous in Spain thanks to the quality of its products, which are still made in the traditional way as the region’s large rural population is strongly attached to their traditions and thinks in terms of quality rather than quantity.
Gastronomic festivals are a testament to the quality of its products and are more common in the summer months. Those focused on Padrón peppers, barnacles, lacón ham, mussels, empanadas, bread and wine are particularly well-known.
The best climate for family life: mild and temperate
Its temperate and mild climate does not change much between winter and summer, although there is a difference between the coast and the interior where lower temperatures are more common, especially in mountainous areas. In addition, there are ski slopes at the Cabeza de Manzaneda mountain resort.
However, it rains quite frequently during the autumn and winter and the summer attracts thousands of tourists, both from Spain and further afield, who are captivated by the climate and well-kept beaches. In fact, in 2018 Galicia had the second highest number of blue flags along its coastline out of all Spain’s regions!
A tribute to nature
La Coruña is also home to the Rías Altas Gallegas, the park that hides hundreds of spots for nature lovers such as Fragas do Eume, the Sarela River Walk or the Corrubedo Dunes, but also for all the city’s inhabitants who are looking to disconnect.
From dizzying cliffs and the extensive beaches of its coastline to the dense and populated forests of the interior, La Coruña has a rich natural environment and has become one of the most demanded destinations by families seeking a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere.
