Santa María de los Rosales School
The Santa María de los Rosales School was founded in 1952 in Madrid by a group of intellectuals and business leaders with the goal of creating an innovative educational institution within the private education sector. Managed by the Paideia Foundation and with more than 70 years of history, it combines a solid tradition with educational innovation and research, while maintaining a firm commitment to the well-rounded education of its students. Its educational program offers an elite, well-rounded education that combines academic and formative excellence with a deep cultural and humanistic education.
It promotes values such as respect, empathy, responsibility, and perseverance, along with intellectual curiosity, freedom of thought, and critical thinking, while respecting the individuality, talents, and abilities of each student. The school enrolls students from age 2 through high school. For the Spanish high school track, it offers the Science and Technology, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Arts tracks, in addition to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, developed in strategic partnership with Nebrija University through the IB Rosales-Nebrija project. Personalized education and active learning methodologies are complemented by programs in public speaking and debate, emotional intelligence, STEAM, programming and robotics, visual arts, music, theater, and performance, as well as a robust sports program, in addition to a multilingual curriculum in Spanish, English, French, and German. Santa María de los Rosales’s range of extracurricular activities extends a well-rounded education beyond the classroom, fostering the development of talents, interests, and values. In the area of sports, the program includes hockey, basketball, soccer, volleyball, padel, judo, skating, dance, ballet, chess, alpine skiing, psychomotor skills, and pre-sports, with options available from preschool through high school. The Art School offers creative painting and a comprehensive Music School, featuring music and movement, piano, violin, cello, flute, guitar, drums, and saxophone, in addition to the ABRSM academic program. As a new feature, the Art School for Families also opens the school to parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends, offering music, painting, and ceramics.
Hockey is one of the defining sports of Santa María de los Rosales, with a tradition spanning more than 60 years and a youth program that has produced even Olympic medalists: a men’s bronze medal in Rome in 1960 and a women’s gold medal in Barcelona in 1992. Currently, A.D. Santa María de los Rosales has more than 10 federated teams—men’s, women’s, and mixed—spanning youth categories such as benjamín and alevín, with progression to higher levels; several students have also gone on to play for national teams in various categories. Its teams compete officially in field hockey and indoor hockey within the Madrid Hockey Federation, using both the school’s facilities and those of the Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid. Adding to this track record are the successes of 2026: the Girls’ Alevín team, undefeated champion of the Madrid Indoor Hockey League (Group B); Mario Ruiz Ruiz, Spanish Junior Indoor Hockey Champion; and Julia Rodríguez Terrén, third place in Spain in the Junior category. The School Medical Service has a doctor and nursing staff available throughout the school day to address students’ medical needs, administer medication, and conduct annual physicals. This accessible and ongoing healthcare integrates health care into the school’s daily routine. In addition, the Guidance Department—composed of specialized professionals who support students, families, and teachers—helps address the various needs that may arise at each stage of a student’s education. It develops programs for gifted students, intelligence and emotional education, psychological assessment and monitoring, family support, educational coaching, study skills, career guidance, and Parent Workshops, among other initiatives.
